This Ministry in collaboration with Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency (GIEPA) and partners is organizing a third National Economic Summit 2011.
The Gambia Economic Summit 2011 will strengthen, institutionalize and promote participative processes for state and non-state consultation. The concept of the summit amongst others is to strengthen Public-Private-Partnership by providing a platform where both parties will interact and hold discussions on development issues as well as forge the way forward through recommendations derived from the summit.
The summit is also expected to serve as a platform to encourage dialogue among public, private sector and civil society for better understanding of each others’ respective roles in the development process in a transparent manner which would result to a genuine partnership built to harness opportunities for economic development.
The 2011 summit will revive the economic summit that was previously initiated and the objective here is to make it an annual event. The outcome of this summit will therefore be presented to The Gambia government for implementation.
A high level committee will be created to work with the government on the implementation of the recommendations of the 2011 summit.
The theme for this year’s Summit is “Developing the Productive Sectors to Accelerate Growth and Employment in the Gambia”. The rationale behind this theme is to enhance economic growth and generate employment for poverty reduction by partnering with the private sector, civil society and development partners.
